Germany Extend Unbeaten Run Against Greece
Impressive Performance Despite Early Setback
MOENCHENGLADBACH, Germany (Reuters) - Euro 2024 host Germany extended their unbeaten streak against Greece to nine games with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in an international friendly match on Tuesday.
Dominant Start and Early Deficit
Germany began the match strongly, dominating possession and creating several chances. However, it was Greece who struck first against the run of play when Anastasios Bakasetas converted a penalty in the 38th minute.
Inspired Response and Second-Half Comeback
The hosts responded well to the setback and equalized just three minutes later through Ilkay Gundogan. Germany continued to pressure Greece in the second half, and their efforts were rewarded when Kai Havertz headed home the winning goal in the 66th minute.
Continued Unbeaten Record
The victory extends Germany's unbeaten run against Greece to six wins and three draws. The two teams have not played since 2014 when Germany won 4-2 in a friendly match.
